Egyptian Basbousa Cake with Almonds Recipe (Arab Dessert Semolina Cake with Almonds and Syrup)

Egyptian Basbousa Recipe (Arab Dessert Semolina with Almonds and Syrup)

 

Basbousa Recipe it has different names such as; Namoura Recipe, or Harissa Recipe is the one of Ramadan’s most delectable sweets. It is Semolina cake with nuts and hot Syrup. 

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ Cups fine semolina
  • ½ Cup flour
  • 1 ½ Tbs baking powder
  • ½ Cup coconut flakes
  • 1 Cup melted butter
  • 1 Tsp orange blossom water
  • 4 OZ yoghurt
  • 4 OZ sugar

 

Optional:

Raisins- about 30 poached almonds or nuts.

 

Syrup:

  • 1 ½ Cups sugar
  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Tsp rose water

 

Steps:

  • Pour semolina in a big bowl
  • Add sugar & baking powder
  • Add flour, coconut flakes, orange blossom water, butter, and yoghurt
  • Mix with your hand
  • You can add a little bit of milk if that necessary
  • Let rest 30 min
  • Grease and flour a baking dish
  • Pour the batter into it
  • Spread the batter
  • Make a design with a knife
  • Decorate with almonds
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350° f for 30-45 min
  • Mix sugar and water together , bring to boil and simmer 5 min then add rose water
  • Pour the warm white syrup over the hot Basboussa
