DIY thyme oil
The introduction
Thyme oil is derived from the herbaceous thyme plant and is recognized as one of the most significant oils obtained from such plants. This oil is prevalent globally, particularly in the Mediterranean region, which serves as the primary habitat for the herbaceous thyme. Furthermore, thyme oil is regarded as one of the most essential therapeutic and aromatic oils available. The therapeutic and health advantages of thyme oil are numerous. It is utilized to alleviate inflammation, detoxify the body, and enhance the immune system’s strength. Additionally, it serves as a mouthwash and may help lower the risk of heart disease. Inhalation of two to three drops of thyme oil is also recommended, as it aids in improving blood circulation.
The instruments employed in the production of thyme oil:
2 glass bottles.
A stainless steel pot.
Manual pestle (mortar).
Thermometer.
Medium-sized bowl.
Cotton cloth.
Strainer.
The components required for the preparation of thyme oil:
half kilo of fresh thyme.
350 ml of olive oil.
Procedure for preparing thyme oil:
- We wash fresh thyme branches thoroughly with water, then set them aside until they are dehydrated and leave them in the open air overnight.
- We prepare the mortar and pestle and place the fresh thyme inside it, then we crush it completely in the mortar.
- We prepare a stainless steel pot and place the fresh thyme branches that we have crushed in the mortar inside it, then we add a quantity of olive oil on top. Next, we put the pot on the stove over medium to low heat.
- We keep the pot on the fire while continuously monitoring the temperature every now and then. When the oil in the pot reaches a temperature of 85 degrees Celsius, we turn off the fire and set the pot aside (there is an alternative method instead of putting the oil on the fire, which is to leave the oil and thyme in a glass container and leave it under the sun for 15 days, stirring it daily).
- We let the oil cool to room temperature, then we take a container, place a strainer lined with a cloth inside it, pour the oil into the strainer, and leave it for half an hour until it is completely filtered.
- We take a medium-sized container, fill it with water, and place the glass bottles inside. Then, we put it on the stove for 10 minutes until it boils. After the water boils, we remove the glass bottles from the container and set them aside on the counter until they dry completely.
- After the sterilized glass bottles dry, we pour thyme oil into the glass bottles and seal them tightly until use.
