Wood is an inspiring surface for many decoupage ideas that give soul and life to the parts used, you can work on wooden trays, cabinets, table boxes, chairs, old furniture pieces, old doors.

Steps to use the art of decoupage on wood:

  1. Before starting the decoupage work, you have to prepare the wood pieces to work on them so that they come out with a great professional look.
  2. First pick the surface you want to renovate, you have many endless options (wooden dishes, old desks, kids’ cupboard, kitchen cabinet, tray).
  3. Prepare the wood by sandpaper it, paint it with a layer of gesso, leave it to dry and then sandpaper it again, you can use acrylic instead of gesso and then wait a little until it dries then repeats this step twice, in case the surface is unclean and full of defects until it becomes smooth and free of any defects.
  4. But in the case of a soft surface that only needs one layer of acrylic without sandpaper, choose the design or the picture you want and start cutting it accurately and emptying it professionally, then paint the wooden surface with glue and gently put the picture from the middle to the ends that is the right way to follow, so as not to shrink and avoid the presence of air between the picture and the surface, and then use a soft brush to spread the glue above the picture and then let it dry.
  5. Last step paint the wooden surface with a layer of varnish and let it dry, then grease it again with varnish.
